Jamaican among lottery scammers nabbed in the US

The United States authorities have made more arrests in their clampdown on persons involved in the Jamaican lottery scam which has been targeting American citizens. Four men, including a Jamaican, who are accused of scamming elderly Americans in the fake lottery, were nabbed in New York on Tuesday. They are Corey Buddle, Orlando Buddle, and Otis Ricketts, all of Brooklyn, and Horace Buddle, of Montego Bay, St. James.

They reportedly scammed at least a dozen elderly people out of more than US$275,000. All four are charged with conspiring to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. Each charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Their arrests resulted from an investigation by the US Postal Inspection Service as well as Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In western New York, an 83-year-old Buffalo man and 71-year-old Rochester man fell victim to the scheme which asked victims to pay fees up front to gain access to their lottery winnings
