Jamaican-born White House employee fired

Jamaica-born hotelier Angella Reid has been fired as the White House Chief Usher.

Ms Reid was dismissed on Friday after serving only six years.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed that Ms Reid is no longer employed to the White House.

Ms Sanders told Friday's briefing that Reid left on "very good terms and we wish her the very best." She added, "it's simply nothing more than the transition of staff."

The Washington Post said Ms Reid worked closely with the First Family and provided guidance on matters of furnishing, art, and decor.

She told the paper she had no comment to make about her departure.

Because the chief usher is not a political position, it is not compelled to change at the beginning of a new White House administration. Most stay on the job for at least a decade, and one was in his position for more than 30 years.

Ms Reid was only the ninth since the start of the 20th century, and leaves after six years.

Ms Reid, who was born in Trinityville, St. Thomas, attended the Excelsior High School in Kingston, before she became a front office trainee at the Half Moon hotel in Montego Bay in 1978.

Prior to becoming White House Chief Usher, Reid amassed more than 25 years of experience in hotel management with Ritz-Carlton, managing properties in Miami, Florida; Washington, D.C and Arlington, Virginia.

As White House Chief Usher, Reid was responsible for management of White House operations.
