Jamaica has recorded improved stopover arrivals for the month of January when compared with pre-pandemic levels.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says there was a 93 per cent improvement in stopover visitors last month when compared with the similar period last year. This was also 15 per cent better than for January 2019.

The Tourism Minister says the month of February is on a similar trajectory.

He expressed optimism that the sector will be able to achieve the target set prior to the pandemic of having five million visitors within a five-year period, ending 2025.

Mr. Bartlett said revenue is also surpassing expectations, with earnings of $4.2 billion projected by the end of this fiscal year in March.

This figure would be $500 million more than the same period in 2019.

At this rate, Mr. Bartlett said Jamaica would surpass the target of $5 billion in earnings by 2025.
