Knight files defamation suit against Tufton, JLP over recording

Retired legislator K.D. Knight has kept his promise to file a defamation suit against the Jamaica Labour Party campaign chairman Dr. Christopher Tufton and the JLP for the playing of what Knight says was a manipulated recording at the JLP mass rally on August 10.

Mr. Knight claimed that the recording falsely suggested he has no confidence that People's National Party President Mark Golding can lead Jamaica.

The document was filed in the Supreme Court on Thursday morning.

This comes days after Mr. Knight's attorney wrote to Dr. Tufton demanding that he retract the recording by August 15.

Mr. Knight's legal team alleges that the doctored recording breaches the Cyber Crimes Act and the Representation of the People Act, and has written to Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake, sending both a formal complaint and what they say is the original unedited voice note.

A copy of the supposed original clip, recorded years ago during internal party discussions, was aired on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines last week.
