JDF soldier, co-accused freed of assault and gun charges

A Jamaica Defence Force soldier and another man who were charged with assault at common law and illegal possession of a firearm last year were acquitted on Friday.

Private Bryan Murphy and Ricardo Simpson were found not guilty in the Gun Court Division of the Home Circuit Court.

It was alleged that on July 17, 2021, Mr. Murphy, Mr. Simpson and three other men assaulted the complainant in Nannyville, St. Andrew.

During the trial, attorney Donahue Martin, who represented both men, challenged the complainant's credibility.
