The Jamaica Labour Party is mourning the death of another councillor from natural causes.

Christopher Townsend, who represented the Olympic Gardens Division in St. Andrew West Central, died in hospital from an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Townsend was reportedly rushed to Spanish Town Hospital on Wednesday night after falling ill while driving.

He died shortly after.

In paying tribute to Mr. Townsend, who was a councillor in his constituency, JLP leader and Prime Minister Andrew Holness said he was an advocate who poured his heart and soul into representing the people of Olympic Gardens.

Mr. Holness added that he was dedicated to the community and his leadership impacted many lives.

Meanwhile, JLP Deputy Leader Desmond McKenzie said Mr. Townsend was an outstanding representative who was fiercely dedicated to service and advancing the interest of the people he served.

Mr. Townsend was re-elected councillor during the local government election in February.

Three councillors have now died this year.

In September, JLP Councillor Marjorie McLeod-McFarlane, of the Aenon Town Division, died after ailing for sometime, while the People's National Party's Rohan Bryan, who represented the Morant Bay Division, died from a heart condition in May.

By-elections are to be held in both divisions on November 22.
