JLP councillor secures injunction to prevent being ousted

Attorney Hugh Wildman

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has been barred from any attempts to prevent Councillor for the St. Margaret's Bay Division in Portland, Stephen Williams, from contesting the upcoming local government elections.

Lead attorney Hugh Wildman told Radio Jamaica News that Mr. Williams was informed by letter last month that the party has decided to conduct a selection exercise with other contenders for the seat.

Mr. Williams, through his attorneys, sought an injunction from the Supreme Court to bar the party from conducting the exercise.

In an update Thursday morning, Mr. Wildman said the injunction has been granted.

"The court has granted an injunction to preserve the status quo that he remains as the councillor-caretaker for the division and nothing must be done to disturb that," said the attorney.

The injunction will last for 28 days.
