JLP moves to quell deepening tension in Party

An attempt will be made this Wednesday to quell the deepening tension in the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) over issues that have arisen from the intense leadership election which was held on Suinday. The JLP's secretariat is indicating that it expects these matters to be sorted out by the end of Wednesday so the Party can move forward.

Tensions rose on Tuesday after the announcement by JLP Leader Andrew Holness of  his slate of  spokespersons.

Audley Shaw and Ed Bartlett declined offers for positions, Mr. Shaw citing concerns about apparent attempts to nullify the nomination of  two deputy leaders and the request for all Senators to resign.

Dr. Horace Chang, JLP General Secretary, speaking on RJR’s Beyond the Headlines on Tuesday, expressed hope that Opposition senators will, by conscience, determine whether they should resign, and that Mr. Holness will be able to iron out all the issues. He stated that a series of  meetings and consultations will be held to facilitate this process.
