Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central, George Wright received a hero's welcome at a meeting of the Jamaica Labour Party's Young Jamaica in Westmoreland on Sunday evening.

The JLP on Sunday announced that Mr. Wright has been re-admitted as a member of the party following his resignation in 2021 after a video of a man physically assaulting a woman was widely circulated.

The police later revealed that Mr. Wright and Tannisha Singh, who both made reports of assault against each other, supposedly arising from that incident, had indicated that they no longer wished to press charges.

Since then he has been serving as an independent MP.

But with his renewed status in the Holness administration, an emotional George Wright took the spotlight on Sunday, touting his work as MP and scoffing at any challenge from his opposition counterpart.

"Labourites, my work speak for me. Regardless, I've seen a little man seh that he the Shadow... well, shadow, going around identifying what he has left here. But the truth is, and the writing is on the wall, that most of our roads are better off now than then," he asserted.

The People's National Party's Dwayne Vaz will challenge Mr. Wright for the Central Westmoreland seat in the upcoming parliamentary election. Mr. Vaz is also the PNP's Deputy Shadow Minister for Road and Works.
