In light of what has already been a record-setting Atlantic hurricane season, the Jamaica National Heritage Trust says the establishment of a disaster fund for heritage sites is on the cards.
Director of Estate Management and Business Development at JNHT Darien McGann says some heritage sites across the island sustained only minor damage during hurricane Beryl.
Despite the perennial pains of hurricanes and adverse weather conditions, Mr McGann revealed that, as a result of budget constraints, there was no disaster fund in place for the protected sites.
Mr McGann also stated that damage assessments for heritage sites are currently underway and would be submitted to the Ministry in the hopes of securing support for restoration and recovery operations.
