JPS faced with challenges in Wilton Gardens

Despite a year-long campaign and constant appeals by the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), to get residents of Wilton Gardens, better known as REMA, and sections of Trench Town regularised service, only about 700 of the roughly eleven hundred households have completed the regularization process.

The JPS is reporting that the process has been hampered by residents refusing connections when JPS personnel attempt to do so, while others have not been located at the given address.

The company had issued a deadline for Friday and explains that several others signed contracts at the last minute to complete the process, but last minute applicants were not connected because the company makes new connections within 1 - 5 working days.
However, in a bid to facilitate these persons, JPS personnel will also be working today to get as many customers connected as possible.

The JPS adds that it has now completed the full implementation of the Residential Advanced Metering Infrastructure (RAMI) system in the communities, and the old network was fully removed from the communities .
This comes after twelve months of working, including offering house wiring assistance, operating a temporary office in the community, issuing appeals in the media, and making house to house visits to encourage residents to have their electricity supply regularised.

The company expressed hope to connect the remainder of the community in the shortest possible time, so it's encouraging residents to go to the nearest Customer Service Office to deal with all outstanding matters.
