Transport Minister Mike Henry, has instructed the Board and Management of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) to provide the Office of the Contractor General with all the information surrounding the engagement and scope of work of Millennium Security Limited (MSL).
This follows an emergency meeting with JUTC Managing Director Paul Abrahams and Chairman Russell Hadeed on Sunday.
The meeting was called after allegations by Opposition Spokesman Mikael Phillips that the management of the State-run bus company awarded a $50 million contract to MSL in breach of Government procurement guidelines.
Mr. Phillips called for the JUTC Managing Director and Board to resign. A statement from the JUTC said at Sunday’s meeting, Mr. Henry was briefed about the arrangement with MSL and was advised that two pilot projects were undertaken to address the theft of Wspare parts, oil and lubricants at the stores at the JUTC.
The theft amounted to millions of dollars.
The JUTC management said it also established a system for time and attendance, as the current system of signing in books is subject to manipulation.
The second pilot which was being explored but did not get off the ground was the accident investigation and disciplinary hearings.
The minister was told that a September 18, 2017 notice was disseminated to inform staff that MSL would start a three-month pilot.
The arrangement was subsequently cancelled as "the value of the service would not lend itself to sole sourcing."
The JUTC said the service is currently out for competitive tender.
The bus company's management reiterated that there is no current nor has there been any $50 million dollar contract with MSL.
