Despite a decline in COVID-19 hospitalisations in Jamaica, the patient intake at Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), the country's largest public public healthcare facility, remains 50 per cent above capacity.
This has been confirmed by Errol Green, Regional Director of the South East Regional Health Authority, told told Jamaica Jamaica News that on Monday night there were 118 COVID-19 patients at KPH, despite the fact that the hospital has only 72 beds for patients suffering from the disease.
Spanish Town Hospital is also operating above COVID-19 bed capacity, he confirmed, with 106 patients and only 92 designated beds.
Princess Margaret Hospital in St. Thomas was another "area of concern" he said, although he did not provide the figures for that facility.
On a positive note, hovever, he said "generally, all the other hospitals in the region have seen improvements in terms of their bed capacity.
These other hospitals are Linstead, Bustamante, National Chest, Victoria Jubilee, St. Joseph's, in additional to the field hospital at St. Jospeh's.
On Tuesday the Ministry of Health & Wellness reported a further decrease in COVID-19 hospitalisations across the country, with 608 patients admitted, compared to 619 on Sunday.
