Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby
The Revenue Collection Department of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) has intensified its efforts to collect outstanding fees from media houses in relation to advertisements across the Corporate Area.
Mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby, disclosed that letters have been sent to the media houses in violation.
"Our revenue department has written to nine such entities. Two have since made payments, one [has] requested additional information and the others have not even acknowledged receipt," he pointed out.
He warned that further action may be taken if the outstanding fees are not settled.
"Let me use this opportunity to remind the public of their company's obligation to pay annual fee to the KSAMC for display of signs and advertisement. For those who have not yet responded to our official communication, we will be taking further actions against you to ensure that the KSAMC is paid what is owed to us. We are sending a strong signal to media houses who we believe should act [more responsibly] and lead by example," he declared.
The mayor reiterated that members of the public and companies have an obligation to pay the requisite fees to the corporation for displaying advertisements.
