Lisa Hanna to meet with disgruntled youth leaders

Youth and Culture Minister, Lisa Hanna has invited youth leaders to meet with her to discuss their concerns.

The invitation follows expressions of disappointment by some youth leaders with her stewardship in an article in today's Gleaner newspaper. Keisha-Ann Sleight reports:

Miss Hanna who was responding to questions at the Jamaica House media briefing Wednesday morning, said although she welcomes analysis on any matter, she should be judged with the backing of empirical data, rather than merely on opinion:

“I think it is important that we always at all times address issues and measure issues and measure them according to the issues that are presented.  I want all of those student leaders to come and meet with me.  There have been achievements that have been achieved in the ministry.  We have signed up over 2,000 young people, we have over 500 persons signing up for microwork. There are things happening.”

One of the issues raised by the youth leaders in the Gleaner article is what the young leader say is Miss Hanna's preoccupation with Jamaica 50 and not the country's youths.

To this she said appropriate attention is paid to every aspect of her portfolio.

The heads of the National Youth Service, the University of the West Indies Guild as well as University of Technology Student Union have all expressed disappointment in Ms Hanna's youth programme.
