A Jamaican man, described as a "dangerous" London gang leader who attempted to avoid deportation based on human rights grounds, has been sent back to Jamaica after the London Metropolitan Police proved he posed a risk to the public.
Andre O’Neil Grant, 30, was deported Thursday, after the police referred his case to Operation Nexus, which collated evidence and background of the various offences and crimes he had committed since arriving in Britain.
Police showed that Grant, who lived in Walthamstow, east London, had 10 UK-based convictions for offences, including driving misdemeanours, drug possession, deception and battery. His case was taken on by Operation Nexus, which has helped to deport over 1,000 foreign criminals in 18 months, after he was acquitted of a murder in July 2011.
The Jamaican was detained on November 14 for overstaying his visa, and his application to remain in the UK, on human rights grounds, was rejected after police proved he was a risk to society.
