Western Jamaica's
largest type five health centre will be undergoing a $6 million upgrading
starting Tuesday.
With construction scheduled to last three to four months, only scheduled appointments, including medical cases, maternal child health, antenatal clinics and HIV/STI will be provided.
Other services, including rape, assault and child guidance cases will be available at the Catherine Hall Health Centre.
To facilitate the relocation of some departments and the commencement of construction, the Health Centre will be closed to the public until Labour Day, May 25.
When it reopens on Tuesday, some services will be transferred temporarily to other health centres.
Parish Manager for St. James Public Health Services, Valencia Maponya says the temporary measures are to ensure continued delivery of health care while safeguarding clients and staff.
The main entrance on Creek Street will also be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
No vehicles will be accommodated on the compound during construction and pedestrian access will be from Church Street, onto Payne Street.
Dental services will be available at the Cornwall Regional Hospital and the Catherine Hall Health Centre.
