Major shake-up in upper ranks of police force

The police high command has announced changes to the upper ranks of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. 

In the weekly edition of the Force Orders, Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams announced that five Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), have been reassigned.

Head of the Area 2 Police, ACP Ealan Powell will be returning to the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). He will replace ACP Devon Watkis who returning to the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID).

It is understood that ACP Watkis will be heading a reorganized version of OCID, which will be responsible for fighting terrorism and transnational crimes.

Police sources say, the Flying Squad, headed by Senior Superintendent Cornwall ‘Bigga’ Ford,  will also be merged with OCID.

The movements will also see Superintendent Steve Brown, currently in charge of the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), moving to St Ann, where he will be the second in command.                                      

Inspector Dahlia Garrick will succeed him as head of the CCU. 

The new appointments take effect on January 15.
