The Westmoreland police have laid additional charges against a man who was accused of beating and torturing a woman in the parish earlier this month.
Collin James, otherwise called 'Andy', a taxi operator of Cornwall Mountain, has now been charged for the murder of Natalie Gooden.
Ms. Gooden died from severe injuries allegedly inflicted by James.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that James was held during an operation on December 9 and later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after Ms. Gooden was found badly injured at a house in Cornwall Mountain.
He appeared in court on December 18 and was remanded on the initial charge.
However, Ms. Gooden died in hospital on December 19, resulting in the charge being upgraded to murder.
It is reported that on December 8, residents of Cornwall Mountain alerted the police that a woman had been beaten, burned and locked inside a house.
Police sent a team to the house where the front door was breached to gain access.
The door was padlocked from the inside.
The woman had bruises, including burns all over her body.
She was rushed to the nearest hospital where she was admitted.
