Man accused of killing father on the run

A man is on the run after allegedly stabbing his father to death in Westmoreland on Wednesday night.

Dead is 54-year-old labourer, Neville Gardner of New Castle.

It was reported that shortly before 10 o'clock, Mr. Gardner went to visit his common-law wife who had recently moved out and into their son's house.

It is reported that Mr. Gardner saw his common-law-wife along the New Castle main road where he reportedly confronted her demanding that she return home.

Residents claim they later heard her screaming for help.

Their son who also heard her screams ran to her assistance.

A dispute then developed between the mother and her husband.

The younger Gardner intervened during which time he used a knife to stab his father.

Mr. Gardner died on the spot.

The younger Gardner then fled the scene.

A search has since been launched for the younger Gardner.

The police say the family had been in an ongoing feud ever since the mother moved out to live with her son.

Another of Mr. Gardner's sons confirmed that the couple had been going through some trouble.
