Prince Moore reports
The police have laid charges against the man who was caught abducting a little girl in May Pen, Clarendon on Tuesday.
Jeffrey McKenzie, a resident of Havana Heights, was charged on Thursday by detectives attached to the Clarendon Criminal Investigations Branch.
He has been charged with the offences of forcible abduction, assault occasioning bodily harm and larceny from the person, among other things.
The suspect was captured by former May Pen mayor and People's National Party Councillor Scean Barnswell, during a dramatic rescue scene after an Ananda Alert was issued for the missing six-year-old girl.
The child, a student of the St. Thomas More Prep School in May Pen, was reported missing from school about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Two hours later, she was found in the company of the man, walking along Glenmuir Road, near the intersection of the Bustamante Highway.
The man was accosted by Mr. Barnswell, who took the frightened child from his grasp. Mr. Barnswell later handed over the suspect to the police.
The councillor and his wife have been commended for their alertness and quick action to rescue the six-year-old girl.
The authorities at the school have not yet stated how the man was able to get hold of the child and remove her from the compound while she was waiting to be picked up by her parents.
