Major Basil Jarrett, Civil Military Cooperation and Media Officer at the JDF
A manhunt is continuing at this hour for the gangsters who shot and injured two soldiers in St. James Thursday morning.
The incident occurred in Richmond Hill in the parish, which is currently under a State of Public Emergency.
Major Basil Jarrett, Civil Military Cooperation and Media Officer at the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) said the soldiers were shot by men who engaged them in a heated gun battle.
The soldiers are still in hospital, however, their injuries are not considered life threatening.
Major Jarrett could not confirm whether any of the gunmen were shot.
The police say a joint military team had gone to the community in search of Delano Wilmot, otherwise called Preckey and his cronies.
They say Mr. Wilmot was a member of the Ryan Ratty Peterkin gang.
They add that since the fatal shooting of Ratty several months ago, Mr. Wilmot has revived the gang and taken over the helm.
The police say Mr. Wilmot is being sought in connection with several murders, shootings and armed robberies in the Retrieve, Cambridge and Catadupa areas of St. James.
