Veteran broadcast journalism trainer and radio personality Alma Mock-Yen has died.
She passed away at home about 10:30 Wednesday morning, after a period of illness following a recent cancer diagnosis and a stroke.
The educator was among a small but dedicated group of pioneers who played a critical role in the establishment of distance education at the University of the West Indies, helping to expand access to higher education for Jamaicans and students across the region.
She taught for many years at CARIMAC, where she helped train generations of journalists and media practitioners, earning a reputation for discipline, professionalism and a deep commitment to broadcasting standards.
In addition to her academic work, she also served at Radio Jamaica, where she made significant contributions as a broadcaster and mentor.
Alma Mock-Yen was 97.
