Millions missing from the Ministry of Finance

Senior detectives have been called in to probe the disappearance of $17 million from a safe at the Ministry of Finance.

RJR News has been informed that Finance Minister, Audley Shaw has requested an early report from the police on the circumstances which led to the money being stolen.

The Major Investigations Task Force (MIT) is leading the probe.

Investigators are trying to ascertain who removed the money which was being kept in a safe at the Financial Investigation Division (FID).

A source at the Finance Ministry told our news centre that the money is likely to have been removed several weeks ago.

The source says the money was being held as an exhibit in a financial crime case.
