The Ministry of Education has completed the release of tuition grants and other funding to schools in preparation for the September 2 start of the new academic year. Ronald Thwaites, Minister of Education, in providing an update, said he had not received any reports of glitches. He said every effort is being made to have schools in a state of readiness for the resumption of classes.
“My instructions are that all but one region would have had their account credited by last week. I have reason to believe that the exercise would have been completed for the remaining region by then, so all schools should have been accredited,” said Mr. Thwaites.
He said if any schools are having technical difficulties, they should inform the Ministry immediately. In the meantime, the Minister said the distribution of textbooks to schools is progressing smoothly. The exercise is expected to be completed by August 30.
“Again I advise parents to check what the government is providing for your child’s school, and consult with the teachers on any other books are needed immediately before you go and spend money buying,” said The Minister of Education. The Ministry is spending J$893 million on text books at both the primary and secondary levels.
