Morgan promises road repairs in Clarendon North Central

Member of Parliament for Clarendon North Central, Robert Morgan, has promised a series of road repair projects for community roads across the constituency.

 

He says rehabilitation has started on the Wire Pasture Road in the Rock River division which has only been repaired once.

 

Mr. Morgan says the other projects should get underway as early as the next two weeks. 

 

"We are also fixing Post Road and we will be fixing Morant in the next two weeks. This month we will be fixing the top of Ennis Hill, and by December, we will be repairing the breakaway that is at the bottom of the Suttons. So we have signed the contract with the contractor. He is now putting in his bond and his insurance," said the MP, who noted that some engineering work had to be carried out at the Suttons breakaway to stop the hillside from shifting. 

 

Before the end of this year, he added, the road from Simon to Rock River Square will be fixed, while repairs outside of Rock River will also begin soon.

 

 

The MP also revealed that Hurricane Beryl which affected the island in July, had resulted in serious damage to the constituency's water supply.

 

Residents regained access to running water just a week ago.

 

Mr. Morgan said a long term plan is in place to resolve the water woes affecting the area. 

 

"When I was growing up we had three wells in that area, we now only have one because the aquifer that is there that produced water for the other two wells, are no longer producing enough water.... So what we decided to do is, in March, Prime Minister announced in Parliament $70 million to complete the water project that we have been doing down there for the last several years. We are not able to find the water under the ground, so we are going to build a dam, a small dam and a treatment plan, and we are also going to be laying some pipes," he announced. 

 

He expects the National Water Commission to begin that work soon. 

 

Mr. Morgan was speaking at a town hall in Rock River, Clarendon on Wednesday evening.

 

The dam is expected to supply water to Rock River and surrounding communities.

 

Mr. Morgan said the Water Resources Authority has already approved the daily removal of 5 million gallons of water, to supply the dam.
