Motorists are being advised to avoid the Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine.
Speaking on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines late Wednesday afternoon, NWA Communication Manager Stephen Shaw said the Rio Cobre was "rising rapidly, so we do not want to have anybody caught in that space".
He said the gate that blocks access to the Flat Bridge should already be closed.
Mr. Shaw urged travellers to use the alternative routes of the North South Highway or Sligoville Road, but suggested motorists stay away from the Barry route, which he said is usually impacted by a river at two different locations.
He said Marcus Garvey Drive and Chesterfield Drive in St. Andrew, which were earlier affected by flooding, are now clear.
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Thomas, Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland.
The Meteorological Service says the Flash Flood Watch will remain in effect until 5 p.m. Thursday.
