Residents of Goodwich Lane off Mountain View Avenue in St. Andrew are expressing frustration that the community is again being affected by violence.
The police have linked the flare up to a dispute involving men working on a housing development in the area.
Men from Jaques Road and Goodwich Lane reportedly accused each other of stealing work material from the site.
The dispute reportedly led to the killing of a man Thursday night.
One resident of Goodwich Lane said the violence is affecting her health as she has begun suffering from high blood pressure. But the violence is also affecting her children.
"Mi son cyah go a school. Me cyah come out a mi house, business place dem lock down. Me have one likkle one year old baby down deh and when di shot dem start fyah him jump out a him sleep an' a bawl," she lamented.
She wants the authorities to demolish an abandoned building in the area which she said criminals have been using to carry out attacks.
Superintendent Victor Hamilton, head of the East Kingston Police, said additional security measures are being implemented in collaboration with the military to curb the violence.
He sought to assure the residents that "the security forces combined can and will bring peace and stability to their communities."
