Principal of Munro College in St. Elizabeth Mark Smith says the significant damage brought by Hurricane Beryl will result in a delayed start to the new school year.
Mr. Smith says of the 35 buildings on the campus, 31 suffered varying degrees of damage.
He says much work has been taking place to have the classrooms ready to accommodate the students for the new academic year.
"We're not anticipating we'll be ready for [September 2], but more likely we'll be starting school the second week in September. So we're going through the various protocols to ensure that approval is received, and there's some consensus around this, and we'll be reaching out to stakeholder groups. What we do have before us is a Herculean task to get all of the various areas already that we can safely accommodate students, but work has started," he said.
Mr. Smith lauded the Munro College Old Boys Association which he said has rallied to assist the restoration effort.
