Police Commissioner Own Ellington has indicated that four motorbikes received Tuesday from Stewart Motors will be used to patrol the downtown and Half Way Tree areas to help reduce robbery-related incidents.
The commissioner’s comments come in the wake of what he described as a sizable number of deaths being attributed to murders committed during the course of robberies. The Commissioner was speaking earlier today at a handover ceremony at his Old Hope Road offices. Commissioner Ellington also highlighted the growing intolerance among society for the high crime rate. This he described as a good move, which shows that people are becoming more accustomed to a more peaceful society and will raise the necessary questions whenever there is a spike in crime. The police commissioner further indicated that the bikes would be able to contribute to the quick response team - with bike patrol at plazas, shopping centres, cash centres, markets and other built up areas.
With the increased mobility and flexibility, Commissioner Ellington noted that the team would be able to effectively make arrests immediately after crimes.
