No Jamaican among farm workers killed in Florida bus crash

By Clinton McGregor

The Ministry of Labour is reporting that no Jamaican farm worker involved in the government's Overseas Employment Programme was among those killed in a bus crash in Florida on Tuesday morning.

Eight farm workers were killed when a bus transporting them crashed into a van in Florida.

Forty other farm workers were seriously wounded in the mishap which is now being investigated by the US authorities.

There were concerns that Jamaican farm workers in Florida may have been among the dead and injured.

But in a statement Tuesday afternoon, Minister of Labour and Social Security Pearnel Charles Jr. said checks by the government revealed that no Jamaican farm worker was involved in the tragic accident.
