Dr. Nicole Dawkins Wright, Director of Emergency, Disaster Management and Special Services at the Ministry of Health, has said there has been no local spread of malaria in Jamaica.
She said the two imported cases of the disease have been effectively contained.
She is also seeking to assure the public that no breeding site has been found for the Anopheles mosquito that transmits the disease.
The Ministry of Health is cautioning travellers to regions where malaria is present to take steps to prevent a reintroduction of the disease into the island.
The ministry says the two cases were identified since November.
