Mayor of Spanish Town Norman Scott has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious destruction of property following an incident at a polling station in St. Elizabeth on election day, September 3.
Mr. Scott, who was unsuccessful in his bid to unseat Franklyn Witter in Elizabeth South Eastern, was charged on Friday.
The Black River police say about midday, Mr. Scott visited the polling station and stayed beyond the allotted time.
Police further report that an agent's attempt to inform him that is a lot of time that the facility had already been spent resulted in a commotion.
Another agent intervened to quell the uproar and was reportedly struck in the face by Mr. Scott, before his security detail removed him from the location.
Following the incident, a report was made to the police and an investigation launched into the matter.
Mr. Scott is scheduled to appear in the Santa Cruz Parish Court on Monday, October 13.
