Not true, says DPP

The Office of  the Director of  Public Prosecutions (DPP) has responded sharply to the criticism being leveled against it about being tardy in the prosecution of  corruption cases.

DPP Paula Llewellyn has sought to explain that the information being circulated in the public domain is not accurate.

The reaction is in response to comments about more than 40 corruption cases referred to the DPP by the Contractor General, and for which there have been no convictions.

The questions have come from Professor Trevor Munroe, Executive Director of  National Integrity Action (NIA) and the Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CAPRI).

In a statement on Thursday the DPP said the forty odd referrals from the Contractor General were not corruption cases but instead are administrative breaches which do not contain the ingredients of  any corruption offence.

She labelled this as a mis-characterization which reflects an intention to mislead the public.
