November 5 hearing for mother accused of throwing baby off rooftop

The case against Shamoya Green, the St. James mother accused of throwing her infant daughter off a rooftop to her death last December, will be heard in the St. James Circuit Court on November 5.

Ms. Green, who is charged with the murder of her five-month-old daughter Destiny Brown, received the court date during her committal hearing in the St. James Parish Court on Monday morning.

Parish court judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton, who presided over the hearing, noted that the trial judge in the circuit court will determine if Ms. Green will attend that court session in-person or via the Zoom platform.

It is expected that a fitness to plea hearing will take place in the circuit court on November 5 to determine whether Ms. Green, who suffers from mental challenges and seizures, will be fit to stand trial.

It's alleged that on December 6, 2023, she threw her child from the third floor of a building during a dispute with her common-law-husband.

The child was later pronounced dead at hospital.
