The National Works Agency (NWA) says the Christopher to Glengoffe Road in St. Andrew, which was impassable on Wednesday following heavy rain, has been reopened.

A team from the NWA reopened the road Wednesday afternoon.

The rain also resulted in landslides affecting several other roads in the parish, which have now been cleared.

NWA Communication Manager Stephen Shaw is, however, appealing to motorists to proceed with caution as some of the affected areas are still wet and are susceptible to mud slides and fallen rocks.

Hagley Gap, St. Thomas

Meanwhile, the NWA has responded to motorists expressing dissatisfaction with work carried out on the Hagley Gap to Mahogany Vale main road in St. Thomas which was damaged by recent heavy rains.

The rains also resulted in landslides on the road.

The motorists say the National Works Agency cleared the dirt road but sharp pebbles remain causing damage to their tyres.

However, Mr. Shaw explained that before the NWA can fix damaged roads, it has to ascertain where the funds to carryout the work will come from.

"The first order of business when we have blocked roads is to try and have them open; anything else, has to be ordered... We have to ensure that the government is not financially exposed, so we have to ensure that we have proper instructions before we can do any kind of rehabilitative work on any of those flood affected roads," he declared.
