NWC systems affected by tubidity

A number of National Water Commission (NWC) customers are experiencing disruption in supply following the heavy rain.

NWC Community Relation Officer Delano Williams said some of its facilities have been taken out of operation due to high turbidity affecting inflows.

Mr. Williams said the situation is across several eastern parishes, namely St. Andrew, St. Mary and Portland as well as sections of Clarendon.

"What we expect is that once the heavy rains continue we may still see this trend with the systems being heavily affected and forced shutdown of the facilities," he declared.

Meanwhile, the National Water Commission said motorists are not able to access the entrance to the parochial road leading off Old Hope Road in the vicinity of U-TECH.

The road has been closed after heavy rains caused a breakaway near the NWC’s sewer mains. A team from the commission is undertaking assessment and rehabilitation.

A statement from the Water Commission said motorists should exercise caution in approaching the area and use Gordon Town Road when accessing and leaving MIND, U-TECH, E-gov, the NWC Training and Audit Departments and residencies.
