Opposition calls for dedicated entity be to manage social housing

Opposition Spokesman on Housing Floyd Morris

The Opposition has characterised the current administration's social housing programme as inefficient.

The initiative was criticised by the Auditor-General in a report on the social benefit programme where she highlighted a duplication of efforts across the government's own social programmes with little or no coordination.

In his response, Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness disagreed with a number of the findings of the Auditor-General in relation to the Social Housing Programme.

But Opposition Spokesman on Housing Professor Floyd Morris contends that the social housing programme is being operated in a less than ideal manner.

Professor Morris, speaking Monday on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines,  called for the establishment of a dedicated entity be to manage the distribution of social housing.
