For the second time in two weeks, classes at a government run school has been disrupted by a demonstration.
Parents of students at the Eccleston Primary School in Macca Tree St. Catherine demonstrated at the institution's gates on Wednesday morning to protest against what they say is the principal's poor behaviour.
At the heart of the discontent is the principal's ruling that the children cannot purchase lunches from the nearby basic school.
But the parents say they are able to get credit at the basic school while the students have to make cash purchases at the primary school.
According to them their efforts to have discussion on the issues have been futile.
“She called them into her office and she asked them why they go and purchase lunch. So I went to her and asked her why is it that she has a problem with the students getting lunch, she turned to me and said ‘I don’t have any problem with it, what’s so special about your son, is your son more special than anybody else, carry him to KFC or wherever you want to carry him’ and went in and shut her door,”
“We had a meeting yesterday and two board members were there and she slammed the door, she doesn’t want to talk to anybody. She voices her opinion and then she walks out of the meeting and that is what caused the demonstration this morning at the school,” said a parent at the demonstration.
But the School's Principal Etta Holness told RJR News the parents are trying to interfere with the rules of the schools.
“They are resistant to changes, they do not want to abide by the rules that the children are not to leave the compound to go on the road during school hours. They say they run things and they don’t want anybody from outside the community to come and rule the school. They are just resistant to change,” Ms. Holness said.
