The St. Thomas Municipal Corporation says letters have been sent to the Paul Bogle Foundation for it to vacate the Yallahs market in order for the location to be used by vendors.

The 21-year lease of the Yallahs market by the Paul Bogle Foundation was terminated on January 5.

The Ministry of Local Government has instructed that the property should be returned to its original purpose of a market for vendors after the lease was terminated.

But Chief Executive Officer of the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation, Claudiah Carter, said the foundation continues to occupy the space.

"Representatives from the council went on the site on January 9th and what we have realised is that the place is in the same state. Nothing has been done to vacate the property. Subsequently, letters were sent to Mr. Constantine Bogle, who is the lessee to advise him that we have realised that nothing has been done to vacate the property and we are sending our final notice to have him remove his stuff from the market," she said.

She added that the Ministry of Local Government has been advised of the situation.
