Paula Kerr-Jarrett, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for Eastern Hanover, has resigned from that position.
She announced her departure at a constituency meeting on Sunday evening.
Mrs. Kerr-Jarrett said she was leaving representational politics, due to family and business commitments.
J.C Hutchinson, JLP Deputy Leader, in charge of Area Council Four, said the the Party had accepted her decision, citing "the business commitments that she has in the North Coast."
He added that Mrs. Kerr-Jarrett had been spending a considerable amount of time abroad, in relation to her business commitments," and the constituency has not been getting the sort of service it should be getting."
Mrs. Kerr-Jarrett was defeated by Dr. D.K Duncan of the governing People's National Party in the 2011 General Election.
The vacancy created by Mrs. Kerr-Jarrett's resignation apparently will not exist for long.
"In short order, we will be getting applicants... We understand that there could be two persons who might be interested," Mr. Hutchinson added.
