Pearnel Charles Jr has broken his silence on the impasse which developed over the weekend between his father, Pearnel Charles Sr, and Robert Morgan, Director of Communication in the Office of the Prime Minister.

A war of words erupted between the two men on social media regarding representation for the Clarendon North Central seat.

But Mr. Charles Jr on Monday described the situation as "unfortunate" and "distasteful".

"I think it is the type of old antiquated politics that we as young leaders have to pull the country out of. It's the politics of my father's era, which is why he says to me all the time 'Be better than me,'" said the senator and state minister.

He also denied some allegations made by Mr. Morgan.

"I don't intend to add oxygen to fire but what I do want to do is to let Jamaica know that many of the statements that have been made are completely false. Some of the allegations, specifically laid about me and my involvement and what I did when I was at UWI and other things, are all untrue. They may be another man's opinion," Mr. Charles Jr asserted.

He admitted that, while he does have an interest in representational politics, he has not applied for any seat. But, he noted, whenever a vacancy arises, he will go through the "formal and usual process of indicating internally."
