Phillips demands answers after sections of newly built Hagley Park Road collapse

Dr. Peter Phillips, Opposition Leader and Member of Parliament for St. Andrew East Central, is demanding an urgent explanation for the collapse of several sections of the recently constructed Hagley Park Road as well as compensation for affected residents.

He said the collapsed roadway appears to be the result of shoddy construction and inadequate planning.

Dr. Phillips said the opposition highlighted instances of mismanagement of the construction of the road while the work was being done but was ignored.

He said in addition to the collapse, there was major flooding which displaced residents and caused damage to homes and properties.

He added that residents are now uncertain about the soundness of their homes.

Dr. Phillips says the National Works Agency needs to tell the residents when rehabilitation works will begin, and arrangements must be made to compensate the affected persons and businesses for the damage.
