Political Ombudsman Bishop Herro Blair has written to the Opposition People's National Party (PNP) concerning reports that it breached the Political Code of Conduct following its islandwide bus tour last week.
The Ombudsman wrote to Peter Bunting, the PNP’s General Secretary, on Monday, July 25, stating that his office has received complaints that flags and other party paraphernalia used during the tour were left in the streets and attached to public buildings in Hanover.
The letter said if the reports are true, the PNP should immediately correct what is a breach of the Political Code of Conduct.
Bishop Blair has also advised that the party take similar action in other areas where breaches have occurred.
He has suggested that in the future clean up teams be put in place at the venues and routes of the party's events.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bunting said the PNP will comply with the Ombudsman's instructions.
He said the party had made arrangements for the area to be cleaned following the tour.
"I haven't seen the Ombudsman’s letter myself yet, but we had made specific arrangements for cleanup at each of the meeting locations. I will ask D K Duncan as Member of Parliament for East Hanover and Regional Chairman to give a final check, to have a crew go through and if there is anything left, if there are any flags left, to have them removed."
