The People's National Party on Monday announced that retired Senior Superintendent of Police, Steve McGregor, will be the party's standard bearer in the Kingston Central constituency in the next general election.
The party says Mr. McGregor will be presented to the constituents on Wednesday.
There has been controversy around the selection exercise after the previous caretaker candidate Lawrence Rowe claimed he was forced out by the party.
Mr. Rowe suggested in a Facebook post that he was forced out of the position amid a breakdown in negotiations with the party's hierarchy.
Party leader Mark Golding on Sunday addressed the contention surrounding the removal of Mr. Rowe, telling Radio Jamaica News that his selection "wasn't a tentable situation" due to "various reasons".
