Julian Robinson, Deputy General-Secretary of the People's National Party (PNP), told RJR's Dionne Jackson Miller a short while ago that Portia Simpson Miller, President of the party, misunderstood a question put to her by reporters on Tuesday when she gave a now controversial response.

“What missing funds?” she reportedly asked, in response questions about allegations by PNP Treasure Norman Horne that some of the party’s candidates in the last general election had not accounted for all of the money collected money from donors for contesting the February 25 general election.

She reportedly further denied knowledge of Horne's report, asking: “What report? They have been keeping me very busy on the road. I’ll have to check it when I get home later.”

Julian Robinson, asked by Dionne Jackson Miller about Simpson Miller's response, said his understanding was that "she thought it was in reference to another matter, and as such her response may have been misunderstood in that context."

Spin?

Pressed as to whether this was mere political spin, Robinson said the PNP President would clarify her comment in a statement to the media.

Regarding the pending investigation of the funding scandal by the PNP's Integrity Commission, Robinson said its terms of reference will be finalised by Monday... and we anticipate that they'll at least have a preliminary report for us within a thirty day period."
