Police High Command concerned about police attacks

The Police High Command says over the last two weeks eleven members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force have come under attack from criminals in St. Catherine and Clarendon.

The High Command raised concerns over what it says is the increased number of attacks on police personnel. The Police says it views these attacks as a strategy by criminals to demoralize members of the Police, and increase fear in the country.

It's also sees the attacks as a serious attempt to increase their stock of guns and ammunition.

In the wake of the attacks, the High Command is raising the general threat level for criminal violence against their members and assets to high.  For members working and living in Clarendon and St.Catherine, the High Command is raising the threat level to EXTREME.

Further, the High Command is urging all personnel to be vigilant and extremely alert when they are at home or returning home at nights.

The High Command noted that most of these attacks are taking place while officers are off duty.

Members are being asked to give as much support as they can to colleagues.

Deployments must not fall below defensive levels and personnel should be prepared to act swiftly and decisively in defence of themselves and colleagues.

The High Command is reminding criminal elements and those who sympathise with them that the Police remain undeterred in the fight to defeat organized crime.
