Police impersonator sentenced to 20 months hard labour

Derrick Thompson, 56, a police impersonator was  sentenced in the Corporate Area Criminal Court on July 7 to twenty months in prison at hard labour, for impersonating a police officer, and three months for Obtaining Money by False Pretense.

His sentences are to be served concurrently.

On January 14, Thompson, who was on bail for the same offence, was spotted by detectives from MOCA interviewing a motorist on Dukaram Avenue in Kingston 10.

Following checks, it was revealed that Thompson was warning the motorist for prosecution for breaches of  the Road Traffic Act, and had fleeced two other motorists earlier that day. He was immediately arrested and charged.  He pleaded guilty to the charges on April 20.
