The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has released the names of 12 alleged sex offenders for whom arrest warrants have been prepared.
It is the second such list that is being released by the JCF in three years.
Nine of the men are wanted in connection with carnal abuse cases, while three are wanted for rape.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ealan Powell, The Head of the Criminal Investigation Branch, who presented the latest list of names at a press conference Thursday morning, highlighted the prevalence of the crimes.
"There is a problem with sex offenders in Jamaica albeit that we’re seeing a decrease over last year, but there’s still cause for concern. We believe that it’s important to list sex offenders because while there have been marginal declines in sex offenses, we don’t want sex offenders, especially repeat offenders on our streets," ACP Powell said.
Two of the sex offenders listed are wanted for carnal abuse and are below age 18.
They are 17-year old Everton McDonald, a delivery man who is wanted for an incident which occurred on December 28, 2009.
McDonald is said to frequent the East Street area of downtown, Kingston.
The other is 17-year old Junior Daley, who is wanted for an incident which occurred in October 2009.
Daley is said to frequent Lizard Town and Denham Town.
An 18-year old, Michael McKenzie, is also wanted in connection with a carnal abuse case which occurred on December 27 last year.
McKenzie's favourite hang-out spot is Langston Road and Mountain View Avenue.
Anthony Hephard, 20, otherwise called "Pappa" and Romeo Anthony Kelly, 20, are also wanted for carnal abuse crimes.
Also wanted for a case of carnal abuse which was committed on December 8, 2009 is Dimitri Hyatt, 23, otherwise called "Bleachy".
Hyatt is said to frequent downtown, Kingston.
Another wanted sex offender is Dwayne Francis 27, who is said to frequent Franklyn Town.
Francis who has black hair and a long face is wanted for a case of carnal abuse which occurred on June 17, 2009.
The police do not have the ages of the last two persons on the list who are wanted for carnal abuse.
They are Kimarley Kelleyman who committed the act in 2009 and is said to frequent Denham Town and the downtown market district.
The other is Remoll Wright otherwise called "Buzzy".
He is known to frequent Goulbourne District and Lawrence Tavern in St. Andrew.
In the meantime, 35 year old taxi operator, Marvin Hawthorne otherwise called "Mark Hawthorne, Mr. Fret and Reddy-Reddy" is wanted in connection with a rape committed on July 21, 2008.
He is said to frequent Studley Park and other areas of Allman Town.
Junior Phipps otherwise called "Shelly" is also wanted for rape committed on November 6, 2009.
He frequents the Bull Bay area.
The final sex offender listed is Phillip Parkinson, 24, who is wanted for rape and indecent assault.
ACP Powell says the police are certain that they will be able to lay charges in at least some of the cases.
“We have statements identifying these perpetrators and we have medical reports and so warrants have been drawn for these persons because they have been clearly identified. If we see them tomorrow we can take them into custody and we can interview them and then charge them,” ACP Powell said.
He adds that he hopes that a Sex Offenders Registry will soon be implemented to assist in tracking convicted sex offenders.
