Police preparing to charge Westmoreland credit union robber

Investigators are making arrangements to charge a 49 year old deportee who attempted to rob a credit union in Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland on Monday.

The suspect, who was shot during the incident, was handed over to the St. Elizabeth Police on Tuesday.

It is reported that shortly after midday, the suspect entered the credit union and walked up to the teller.

He reportedly handed her a piece of paper with the word "robbery" written on it.

The suspect then jumped over the counter, brandished a ratchet knife and ordered the teller not to move.

Investigators say the man pulled out a drawer and removed $400,000 cash.

He was attempting to flee the bank when he was confronted by a security guard who shot him.

The Area One Police report that the suspect was deported from the US earlier this month after being convicted for a bank robbery in Prince George's County, Maryland in 2016.
